Here at The Hook, we regularly talk about “The Hook Method” and what makes it such a powerful and effective workout. A lot of the effectiveness deals with what happens in the 45 minutes we spend doing HIIT workouts in our Grapevine fitness studio. That said, there are also things you can control both during and in between classes to ensure that every single group fitness class counts. Read on below to learn some simple actions you can take to make the most of our time together. 

How to Get the Most From Your Workout 

Be Consistent 

If you look at our fitness class schedule, you’ll see that we have classes as early as 5:00 AM and as late as 7:00 PM. Find a time that works for you and try to attend at least 3–5 classes per week. We offer a membership plan that includes unlimited sessions each month, as well as non-member packages for discounted classes and single-session classes. We highly recommend purchasing a membership if you want the most bang for your buck and the ability to attend as many sessions as you want. 

Arrive Early

By the time the class begins, you should be on the floor and in the proper mindset for working out. If you are running through the door at 5:02 for your class that started at 5:00, it’s going to take you another five minutes or so to change into your workout clothes, fill up your water bottle, put on your gloves, and so forth. All of this wastes valuable time and prevents you from focusing 100% on the workout.

Make the Time

This goes hand-in-hand with being consistent and arriving early. To have an effective workout, you need to value your health and fitness enough to make the time to come. Whether this means you need to prep dinner for the week on Sunday afternoon or you need to arrange for a friend to pick up your kid from soccer practice, do what you need to make time to workout. 

Perfect Your Form

Have you ever been doing crunches in a group class and the woman next to you says, “This isn’t even hard!” as you feel like your stomach is literally on fire? If you are doing an exercise correctly, you should feel it. It shouldn’t hurt, but it should burn because you are activating and strengthening your muscles. One of the best benefits of our fitness classes for women is having a skilled trainer working with you to perfect your form. Listen to their advice and always be conscious of your form. 

Get Some Sleep

Sleep is important for so many reasons, and many of those can be traced back to improving the efficacy of your workout. Adequate sleep can help reduce depressive symptoms, making it more likely that you will feel mentally well enough to make it to the studio. It also ensures you are able to physically exert yourself to your max when working out, and it helps your body rest and repair itself after a workout. 

Do HIIT Workouts

High-intensity interval training is a method of exercise that is designed to give you an intense workout in a short period of time. Utilizing short bursts of intense exercise interspersed with short rest and recovery periods has been shown to be as, or more, effective than doing moderate continuous exercise for twice the amount of time. HIIT workouts are a great way to ensure that every minute counts

Fuel Your Body Before and After a Workout

Working out on an empty stomach is just as bad as scarfing down junk food before a workout. Similarly, not giving your body the right nutrients it needs to recover after a workout can also have negative effects. Eating a small snack full of healthy protein and complex carbohydrates before and after a workout at our women’s gym can help give you the energy you need to complete a tough workout while also ensuring your muscles have the components they need to recover and rebuild. 

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is important for your brain, your muscles, your heart, your skin, your joints, and just about every other part of you! Staying hydrated before, during, and after a workout can help make your workout safe and effective. 

Mix It Up

Finally, don’t get stuck in a workout rut. Our group exercise classes for women are always a little different so that your mind and body don’t get stuck in a repetitive, boring routine.
